Niche-based retirement living, as discussed in this L.A. Times article, is supposedly the wave of the future. This is not so different from the theme-based dorms I used to live in. They were mostly ethnicity and affinity-based. Everyone wants to re-live college, right? (ha.)
So this is how it could work: at age 20, you live in the “nature-lover” or “Japanese-American” university theme house. Then, fifty years later, you move into an elder residential community where, for example, each resident creates and maintains a Japanese garden.
For those who didn’t experience college, here’s one more reason to look forward to elderhood.
